Volume and loudness

Resound has two volumes, one for what others hear and one for what you hear, plus an optional volume per sound. It also evens out how loud your sounds are.

Others hear and You hear

Under the audio flow (home page, or Settings → Audio & voice chat) there's a slider for each:

  • Others hear: how loud your sounds are in voice chat. Your own voice isn't affected.
  • You hear: how loud the sounds are in your headphones or speakers.

Both sliders change loudness evenly along their length. A good start: set Others hear so a sound is about as loud as your voice in Discord's mic test, then leave it there.

A sound's own volume

In the phone app, long-press a button to open its settings. Volume Adjustment makes that one sound quieter (left) or louder, up to twice as loud (right), for you and for others alike. The middle is the normal volume.

Even out the loudness

Resound measures each sound once and plays it at the same perceived loudness as all the others, so a whispered clip and a blaring airhorn come out about equally loud. Quiet sounds are raised at most a little, so they don't get noisy. The volumes above apply on top.

To play sounds exactly as their files are, turn off Settings → Sound library → Even out the loudness of sounds.
